AMBAS ART COLLECTION
We are thrilled to present a rare and unparalleled opportunity for art enthusiasts and collectors: the first edition of our exclusive lithograph portfolio.
This initial selection of several extraordinary works in our Ambas Art Collection, predominantly by the world-renowned Catalan artist Antoni Tàpies, also includes significant pieces by Eduardo Chillida. This is a momentous event, as we present artworks from a small, private Swiss art collection that acquired the pieces directly from the lithography workshop of the Erker Gallery.
Each piece in the Ambas Art Collection is a unique, original lithograph, meticulously signed and numbered by the artist. This authenticity and exclusivity add immense value to the collection, showcasing the remarkable creativity and mastery of these internationally renowned artists.
Embrace this opportunity to acquire an original graphic artwork. Welcome to the first edition of our lithograph portfolio, where the timeless cultural expression and exceptional graphic craftsmanship of renowned artists await you.
Erker Gallery, Publishing House and Erker Press
During their lifetimes, the two founders decided that the gallery, publishing house, and press should be liquidated after their deaths. This occurred at the end of 2014. With the estate, museums, schools, and art institutions around the world were generously gifted graphic works and books from the publishing house.
Edition 01
The following collection features original lithographs produced by Erker-Presse St. Gallen, encompassing both coloured (FOL) and black-and-white (OL) editions. Each lithograph is a signed original, marked with the distinctive dry stamp (Timbrado) of Erker-Presse St. Gallen.
Please note that all lithographs are unique, single copies that cannot be reproduced. Among these, some prints are designated with unnumbered notations: e/a (épreuve d’artiste), p.a. (artist’s proof), E/A (artist’s proof), or H.C. (Hors Commerce). These indications denote prints created specifically for the artist’s own collection or for non-commercial purposes, separate from the numbered editions.

Antoni Tàpies
Barcelona 1923 – 2005
Tàpies created his lithographs at Erker Press for the first time in 1963 and continued this activity until shortly before his death. Over 200 lithographs, some woodcuts, and several bibliophile books in collaboration with writers such as Max Hölzer, Martin Heidegger, Alexander Mitscherlich, and Joseph Brodsky were produced. His work emphatically referred to the freedom of Catalonia and Catalan intellectual life, and the liberation from authority. His sign language (ciphers, crosses, etc.) is not to be understood literally, but rather as initials, or the encryption of secret messages. Everything remains open to interpretation. Tàpies’s pictorial puzzles are not meant to be solved. Added to this is his tendency towards the mundane, the honest, and the trivial, expressed in ordinary materials and matters (dust, sand, rags, foot, arm, book, bed, etc.). No artist was as intensively nurtured in the Erker Gallery over the next four decades as he was. Several writings by and about him were published, and the catalogues of his graphic works were translated into German and French.
